Vintage Spanish Revival Barley Twist Dining Chairs (Set of 6)

Vintage dining chairs with a bold, old-world presence, crafted in dark stained wood with dramatic barley-twist posts and richly carved detailing throughout. The tall backs are framed by turned uprights and topped with ornate crest rails featuring intricate scrollwork and cutout accents, giving each chair a strong architectural silhouette. Along the seats, carved apron panels add another layer of depth, with repeating scroll motifs and leaf-like carving that continues into the knees and legs for a truly decorative, high-detail look. Upholstery is done in a striking red and gold tapestry-style fabric with a traditional motif that complements the carving and adds warmth against the deeper wood tone. A unique construction detail is the woven support visible on the underside—this is traditional jute webbing, used as the foundation beneath the padding and upholstery, and it’s a detail you don’t often see so clearly. Based on the style and construction, these are most likely mid-to-late 20th century, circa 1960s–1980s.

Condition: This set is structurally solid and sits evenly with no looseness in the frames. The original tapestry upholstery shows notable wear consistent with age and use, including scattered stains and discoloration throughout. Nearly every seat corner has visible fabric fraying or small tears, and the back panels show thinning, pulls, and spotting. The carved wood frames display surface wear and finish variations typical for vintage pieces, but no breaks or instability were observed.
